Is Pokemon Go Dead?

Is Pokemon Go dead? In order to talk about the future of something, it's best to start with its past. Pokemon Go was released on July 6th and became an instant hit with millions of downloads - about 45 million of them. I remember that moment when I caught my Charmander in my living room. It was like a childhood dream come true. So, the first thing that I did was kiss my wife goodbye and set out on my adventure... to the local park where I sat like a dork catching Growlithes and Eevees for an hour until my battery died.

The game was glitchy, it drained my battery life faster than this year's elections have drained my hope in humanity, but it didn't matter. I was living my dream and having fun. Then, the next aspect of the game became clear - this was a grinding game, pure and simple. You walk around, catch Pokemon, and use them to strengthen your other Pokemon until you have them all - as well as every gym within walking distance. I think it was that grind that threw many players off.

Within a month, 15 million people had stopped playing. I don't really see this as the death of the game, though. Millions of people downloaded the game just to see what the craze was about. They played for a bit, had their taste, and left. I've done the same with dozens of games and I paid a lot more for them than a free download. So again, this didn't surprise me.

Since then, the road has certainly been rocky. The tracker was removed, then Niantic started to go after 3rd party trackers (I mean, you have a tracker in the game - your Pokedex - so why not have one here as well?), and there have been many issues with servers and a lack of features that would give the game longer legs - like trading and battling outside of gyms. Not to mention the constant delays behind the Pokemon Go Plus. Personally, I live in a small town with only a few PokeStops and not very many Pokemon spawn around here. I have been constantly struggling for Stardust to power up my team, but it's just not an easy thing to come by. Even now, I'm only level 15 after playing for an hour every day since release. And I only have 3 Pokeballs.

All of that being said, I can understand why many would think that the game has died. However, according to Thinkgaming.com's revenue tracker, Pokemon Go is still making nearly $2 million dollars per day and gaining an estimated 40,000 new installs every 24 hours. Pokemon Go made $200 million in its first month and has earned an estimated $600 million since its release. That doesn't sound like a dead game.

In addition to in-app sales, Nintendo has also stated that Pokemon Go has caused sales of their other systems and games to go up as well. I haven't owned a Nintendo system since the N64 and Gameboy Color, now I'm seriously considering a Switch because I'll hope to play these Pokemon games again. And it was Pokemon Go that instilled that desire in me.  It's also what made me want to buy these Bulbasaur planters.

I can still easily find groups of people playing Pokemon Go at popular stops in town. The 3rd party tracking community is strong, with local Facebook groups made just to share spawn locations. I made a Pokestop and gym map for my region at game launch which is still receiving 30,000 visits a month. The game is far from dead, it's only those that downloaded the game out of curiosity that have left.

What is the Pokemon Go Buddy System?

Pokemon Go Buddy System

Hi Everybody and welcome back to Lava Dragons, today I wanted to give a quick run down of the Pokemon Go buddy system. This was recently discovered in the data mined code from the game and looks like it’ll be going live in the next update. Now, for those that aren’t familiar with data mining, it’s where we take large amounts of information and look through it to find new information. In this case, we’re talking about the actual game code. Whenever there’s a new patch or update, we can compare the new code to the old and see what’s changed and sometimes get a glimpse at things to come – which is exactly what happened here.

Basically, the Pokemon Go Buddy System is going to give us the choice to walk around with one of our Pokemon. Doing so will cause the Pokemon to collect or generate candy for that particular Pokemon and its evolutions (so, you walk a Squirtle, you get Squirtle candy that can be used on your Blastoise). This will happen every few kilometers, as the distance is based on the same system as hatching eggs. It does look like there’s a daily limit to how many candies you can get this way, but it’s still going to be a huge help for raising those hard to find Pokemon. I’m especially excited to do this with my Scyther.

Now, there’s one last thing to mention. Just like in some of the games, where your chosen Pokemon walks around with you on screen, your chosen Pokemon will also appear in the game world with you.

There are four sizes so far:
medium, which would probably just be the normal size,
Big,
flying, and
resting on your shoulder (yay for pirates!).

The only thing that I think would make this better is if we could see other trainers and their Pokemon walking around and to be able to battle with them. But, that’s just me. By the way, it looks like Niantic has confirmed that they want to add trainer battles and it looks like we’ll see it in December/January of this year. There’s a link on that, too. (http://pokemongohub.net/pokemon-go-trading-trainer-battles-gen-ii-release-dates/)

Again, if you would like to read more about the specific details and take a look at the code they mention, there is a link that’ll take you straight there. Also, I’m not sure if you guys have seen these things yet, but there’s a link in the description for them as well. You have Pokemon keychains, Pokeballs, and all kinds of neat stuff on that site, so check it out if you are so inclined.

But, that’ll do it for me. My name is Triston from Lava Dragons. If you want to see more gaming and Pokemon news, make sure to subscribe cause that’s how YouTube works.
See you all in game.

Battlefield 1 Beta

Pre-order Battle Field 1 by clicking here :)
From our buddy GrizzlyYoda:

IT IS FINALLY HERE!! Well Kind of.... I was lucky enough to get an early access code to the Dice First Person Shooter Battlefield 1! Now I was super stoked when I got this email at.... 3 A.M. on August 30th. Yes I waited for i to download because i wanted to give you guys a glimpse at the beta that will drop tomorrow August 31st! Now If you love Dice and Battlefield in gerenal.. You Will love this game. I swear to god it is AMAZING!!! and Legitness ;)

Never heard of Battlefield 1? Well let me explain it to you!!

Battlefield 1 is an upcoming first-person shooter video game developed by EA DICE and published by Electronic Arts. Despite its name, it is the fourteenth installment in the Battlefield franchise, the first main entry in the series since Battlefield 4 and the first World War I video game published by Electronic Arts since Wings of Glory in 1994. The game is scheduled to be released on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One worldwide on October 21, 2016.

Similar to previous entries in the series, Battlefield 1 is a first-person shooter that emphasizes teamwork. The game is set in the period of World War I, and is inspired by historical events. Players can make use of World War I weapons, including bolt-action rifles, automatic and semi-automatic rifles, artillery, flamethrowers, and mustard gas to combat opponents. Melee combat was reworked, with DICE introducing new melee weapons such as sabres, trench clubs, and shovels into the game. These melee weapons were divided into two groups: heavy and light. Players can also take control of various armored vehicles, including light and heavy tanks, armored trucks, biplane aircraft, battleships and zeppelin, as well as ride horses into battle. Destructible environments and weapon customization, features present in the previous games, return in Battlefield 1 and will be more dynamic.

According to the game's designer, Daniel Berlin, the campaign mode has larger and more open environments than those in previous installments in the franchise, with more options and choices in terms of paths to completing levels and how to approach combat. Players can control several characters in the campaign.

The game's multiplayer is planned to support up to 64 players. The new squad system allows a group of players to enter and leave game servers together. According to Berlin, playing without joining a squad would make gameplay significantly more difficult. Multiplayer maps are to be based on locations around the world, including Arabia, the Western Front, and the Alps.

Battlefield 1's multiplayer features eight distinct classes:

Assault Class: The primary anti-vehicle class. Assault players have SMG's and automatic rifles at their disposal.

Medic Class: The Medic class is primarily focused on reviving fellow teammates, healing them, and repairing their vehicles. The primary weapons in this class are semi-automatic rifles.

Support Class: Supports have light-machine guns at their disposal. They also contribute to the team by replenishing their fellow team-mates' ammo.

Scout Class: Scouts use sniper rifles. The class contributes to the team by spotting enemies, and by firing the flare gun, which places nearby enemies in the vicinity on the mini-map.

Tanker Class: Players choosing to spawn into a tank will now automatically spawn as the tanker class. The class is new to the series, and features a hammer that can repair vehicles.

Pilot Class: Players who spawn into a plane will now automatically spawn as the pilot class.

Cavalry Class: Players who choose to spawn on a horse would give them the cavalry class

Elite Class: Elite classes are obtained by players through a pickup on the battlefield, which allows them to wield different special abilities or weapons such as the flamethrower. This class has different variations such as the Sentry, Tank Hunter, and Flame Trooper.

Pokemon Go on Android 7.0

The Android 7.0 (Nougat) update was released last night for Nexus 5X, which contains a bunch of quality of life improvements. I thought that you guys would be interested in seeing how those improvements affect Pokemon Go.

To summarize, Android 7.0 doesn't really make a visible difference in the game. It runs a little faster and it's easier/faster to switch between apps, but that's about it. Even so, I was able to get 5 hours of gameplay out of my Nexus 5X today and I do like some of the new features - I don't use the others.

New stuff in Android 7.0 - Nougat

Multi-window support (for some apps)
Quick switch between apps
Vulkain API (better games)
Virtual Reality apps (not sure if this is compatible with the Nexus 5X)
Improved battery life
Custom quick settings
Better notifications
- you can now replay from your notifications in some cases
More emojis

Another thing that I noticed is that the phone ran much more smoothly while I was recording the screen. It also uploaded the footage much more quickly to YouTube when I finished. I'm not sure if that's directly related, but it was noticeably.

If you want to get your own Nexus 5X, you can pick it up  on Amazon.com (http://amzn.to/29PZwch) and they have Pokemon Go phone cases for the Nexus 5X!! http://amzn.to/2ahIocW

Metal Gear Survive - Trailer First Impressions w/ The Ninja Kuma - Zombies?!

IGN can exclusively reveal Metal Gear Survive, a four-player stealth co-op game set within the Metal Gear universe, due for release on Xbox One, PS4 and PC in 2017.

Set directly after the events of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, Survive sees the members of Militaires Sans Frontières not killed in that game’s finale transported through wormholes into an alternate universe, where they’re forced to battle a force of crystalline zombies and, it seems, at least one Metal Gear itself.

“Metal Gear Survive will offer a fresh take on the series’ famed stealth elements,” said Konami European president, Tomotada Tashiro in a press release, “but within a unique co-op setting that is designed for a truly engrossing multiplayer experience.”

Survive will be the first full Metal Gear game made after the departure of series creator Hideo Kojima, and Konami has been unclear as to how much, if any, of the original Kojima Productions team will be working on the game.

While Big Boss appears at the beginning of the game’s trailer, it remains unclear whether he, the Snake clones, or any recognisable characters from Kojima’s games will appear in the core game. However, Konami does make clear that this is “a new addition to the Metal Gear Solid V experience”.

Konami has revealed few concrete details about the game at this point, barring a teaser trailer (above), but it will be built for four-player co-op play, and will have players using brand new weaponry to fight off enemies. A Konami fact sheet refers to the game as “survival done the Metal Gear way”.

The zombie-like enemies shown are referred to by Konami as “biological threats”, and mention is also made of teaming up to take down “massive threats”, which could potentially be the Metal Gear heard at the end of the trailer.

Going by the trailer itself, the game appears to involve scavenging for resources from the destroyed Mother Base, parts of which have been sucked through and scattered out of the wormholes that transported the game’s central MSF characters.

Survive will use the same FOX Engine that powered both instalments of Metal Gear Solid V. Konami will release more information following Gamescom, and we’ll update you as soon as we find out more.
